BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 5. Iran's agricultural and food product exports grew by 22 percent in value and 8.4 percent in volume in the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024), compared to the same period last year, said Rouhollah Latifi, an official of the Central Union of Rural and Agricultural Cooperatives of Iran, Trend reports.

He stated that Iran exported around 6.8 million tons of agricultural and food products worth $4.87 billion during the reporting period.

Latifi added that 4.94 million tons of crops (including greens, fruits, vegetables, etc.) worth $2.93 billion were exported in 10 months, showing an increase of 25 percent in value and 3 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.

The official also said that Iran exported 1.13 million tons of foodstuffs (including pasta, sweets, chocolate, biscuits, etc.), worth approximately $932 million. This is an increase of 22 percent in value and 26 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.

“Furthermore, 697,000 tons of livestock, dairy products, and fishery products worth $1.01 billion were exported from the country for ten months, representing a 13-percent increase in value and a 28-percent increase in volume compared to the same period last year,” Latifi noted.

Iran’s efforts to boost its non-oil exports amid the US sanctions that limit its oil sales. Iran’s non-oil exports include all products except crude oil, mazut, and white oil.

The latest data from the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) shows that Iran exported a total of 113 million tons of non-oil products valued at $40.5 billion in the first ten months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024). This represents an 11 percent drop in value but a 9.4 percent rise in volume compared to the same period last year.
