Tax Ministry plans to deepen relations with tax bodies of Islamic countries

The Tax Ministry plans to activate the involvement in the work of the Association of tax bodies of Islamic states within the framework of measures on restructuring the country’s tax system. It is needed from the standpoint of familiarization with the international experience, the Tax Ministry told Trend.

The Tax Ministry’s officials took part recently in the Association’s second technical conference in Tehran at the invitation of the State Tax Organization of Iran.

The Association was established in October 2003 on the initiative of the Malaysian Prime Minister at the 10-th session of the Organization of Islamic Conference. The main goal for establishing the structure is deepening of ties between tax bodies of Islamic countries and exchange of experience.

The Association consists of 17 members. Two more countries joined during the Tehran conference. Exchange of experience on taxes in Islamic states took place, in particular, Islamic taxes, zekat, for example. The delegation from Azerbaijan familiarized with the procedures of applying VAT, as well as the issue to avoid double taxation.
