Azerbaijani Tariff Council and Kazakh Agency for Regulation of Natural Monopolists Reached Co-operation Agreement

The delegation of Azerbaijan participated in the 2nd annual Forum regulating energy structures of member-countries of the program of Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the organization of economical co-operation of countries of Central Asian region. The event was held from 11 - 15 September, 2006 in Alma-Ata through the organizational support from ADB and Kazakh Agency for Regulation of Natural Monopolists, Trend reports quoting the Tariff Council of Azerbaijan.

The meeting brought together the representative of the regulation bodies of China, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, experts of the USA, Austria, Hungary, Canada, Italy, Spain, as well as European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Asian Development Bank, Eurasian Economic Union, Islamic Development Bank and USAID.

Azerbaijan was represented at the meeting by the Secretary of the Tariff Council Elshan Asadov and Chief of the Secretariat Sector J.Agakishbeyli. The meeting focused on the formation of electric power tariffs and their structures, methods of social protection of poor layers of population, provision of additional services, problems of private firms in the regulation process and regulation bodies.

During the event, Asadov informed the guests about the tariff policy of Azerbaijan and reforms in the country, mentioning the importance of experience exchange and international co-operation.

Visiting Kapchay Heat Power Station in Alma-Ata, the participants of the event familiarized with the new equipments and modern technologies. Within the meetings, discussions were held with the representatives of the Infrastructure Section of ADB Department for Central and East Asia regaring the future directions of the co-operation, and an agreement was reached with Kazakh Agency for Regulation of Natural Monopolists. As a result of the event, a working plan was agreed for 2007, and it was decided to hold the next meeting in Ulan-Bator city (Mongolia).
