Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend I.Khalilova / The US Government decided to continue providing assistance to Azerbaijan in the process of entrance into the World Trade Organization (WTO). The US's First Deputy Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Donald Lu, said on 30 May at the seminar 'Current situation and prospects of Azerbaijan's membership to WTO' that in line with the USAID, the USA will provide technical assistance in amount of $3.7 mln in 2007.
The assistance will be provided in bringing the legislation into conformity with the WTO requirements, Lu said.
According to the Head of the negotiation group and also Deputy Foreign Minister, Mahmud Mammadguliyev, amendments to the active normative-legal acts have already been and submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan.
The key issue discussed with the WTO member-countries is the application of the subsidies in the sphere of agriculture.
Over the past three years, the USA rendered technical assistance to Azerbaijan in preparing documents and consultation services within entrance to the WTO.
