Azerbaijan and   Greece Sign Gas Declaration

Azerbaijan, Baku, 17 March / corr. Trend S. Aliyev/ On 17 March, a declaration has been signed in Baku as a result of the talks between Natig Aliyev-Minister of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan and Christos Philias-Minister of Development of Greece. The document indicates the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Greece and cooperation in industry.

According to Aliyev, Azerbaijan will produce approximately 28bln cu. meters gas in 2008. Some 8bln cu. meters of this volume accounts for the production in the fields of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), 14bln u. meters of gas will be from Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli fields and some 8bln cu. meters of the gas and condensate field from Shahdaniz.

" Azerbaijan has huge gas resources. And new field are most likely to be opened soon," the minister said. It concerns fields including Nakhchivan and Zafar-Mashal. The resources of the deep-laying free gas in Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli field are estimated at 500bln cu. meters.

The supply of Azerbaijani gas to Greece, energy security in Europe and the prospects of cooperation in the oil and gas spheres, in alternative and amended resources and development of non-oil sector were discussed during the meeting with the Greek minister.

The Greek delegation led by Greece development minister includes- general secretary of Sea Transport Ministry, president of the national council for strategy and energy of Greece, chairman of the board of directors of DEPA, head of the center for alternative energy sources and head of the Greek food organization.
