Workers of German Lufthansa Airway Company End Strike

Azerbaijan, Baku, 2 July, / corr. Trend E. Ismayilov/ The strike of the workers of the Lufthansa airway company of Germany that began on 2 July has already ended. The strike caused delay of Baku-Frankfurt-Baku flight carried out by the German airway company. The plane headed to Frankfurt from Baku left Baku at 06:06 a.m. Baku time. The flight was to be carried out at 03:04 a.m. according to the schedule, AZAL closed joint stock company said.

Thousands of workers of Lufthansa airway company refused to come to work on 1 July morning. The representatives of the trade unions stated that the workers went on strike because the management of the company refused to increase the salary of pilots and employees of the land services. More people took part in the token strike than the trade unions were expecting.

The strikers demand 9.8% pay rise for over 60,000 employees of the company while the management agreed to only gradual rise of 5.5%.

Lufthansa plans to raise salary of the workers by 3.4% in a year with further 2.1% in 6 months.

The workers of the land services of the Frankfort-on-the-Main and Dyusseldorf airports put forward similar demands on 23 June.
