Azerbaijan, Baku, 1 August / corr. Trend E.Ismayilov / The complex geological exploration and topography department of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) completed geotechnical explorations in the Western Absheron field to drill a new well, the company said on 31 July.

"We have completed geotechnical work in the field to drill a new well," the company said.

Drilling of exploratory well is necessary to specify recoverable reserves of the field and its delineations. After discovering of attractive hydrocarbon reserves, exploitation wells will be drilled and platforms will be installed to produce oil in the area

Geological exploration work has been completed in the field, whilst drilling rig Absheron has not been delivered to the area yet, where a new well will be drilled, the company said. The project depth of a new well is 850m.

Earlier drilling work was completed in a previous well, which was in its depth of 772m.

Estimation of reserves in this filed revealed that there might be more than 10mln tons of oil equivalent. This overestimation of reserves was held after exploratory drilling. Earlier, the field was expected to contain 5mln tons of oil equivalent.
