Azerbaijan delivers gas to Iran to supply needs of Nakhchivan

At present Azerbaijan is delivering 1.2 million cubic meters of natural gas to Iran each day to supply needs of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR), the government said.

Azerbaijan delivers gas to the Islamic Republic which in its turn, transports natural gas to NAR.

The Gazi-Mahammad-Astara-Bin-Biand pipeline connects Iran and Azerbaijan. The pipeline is 1,474.5- kilometers long, including 295.6 kilometers passing through Azerbaijan. The pipeline's carrying capacity is 10 billion cubic meters per year. The route is a branch of the Gazakh-Astara-Iran pipeline, which was commissioned in 1971. Three compressor stations were built in Gazi-Mahammad, Agdash and Gazakh. Gas transport system is designated for pressure of 55 atmospheres. Diameter of the pipeline is 1,200 millimeter.

Azerbaijan gets gas from fields developed by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (Socar) independently, as well as from its share in development of Shah Deniz offshore field.

Daily production makes up 22 million cubic meters under the Stage-1 of development of Shah Deniz field.

Moreover, gas is produced from own fields of Socar. The company intends to produce eight billion cubic meters of gas in 2009
