Reduction of oil processing volumes at SOCAR oil refinery named after Heydar Aliyev in Baku is not expected in 2009, SOCAR source close to operations said on May 6.

"Operations are being conducted properly at the plant. Processing is not planned to be reduced in 2009", source said.

Over 4 million tons of oil will be processed at the plant in 2009, source said.

Depth of processing at this refinery exceeds 80 percent, source said earlier.

Total volume of oil processing at Azerbaijani oil refineries in the first quarter of 2009 hits 1.5 million tons of oil compared to over 1.9 million tons per similar period of 2008.

Two refineries operate in Azerbaijan - refinery named after Heydar Aliyev and Azneftyag. Light oil products are produced at the first refinery but dark ones at the second plant. Total capacity of both refineries hits 20 million tons of oil per year. Both refineries enter SOCAR. SOCAR processes roughly 6 million tons of oil extracted onshore and offshore owing to own means annually.
