Azerbaijan expresses its desire to resume the oil equipment supply to Cuba which carried out in the Soviet period, Azerbaijani Minister of Industry and Energy Natiq Aliyev said during his meeting with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation of Cuba Ricardo Guerrero, the Ministry of Industry and Energy reported.
On May 19, Baku will host the second meeting of the Azerbaijani-Cuban intergovernmental commission on cooperation.
The Minister also noted that Azerbaijani oil workers could participate in the oil economy of Cuba.
According to Guerrero, Cuba annually produces four million tons of oil, which provides about 50 percent of the country's needs. A total of 11 foreign companies are working in Cuba on oil field and Azerbaijan will take part in this process, the Deputy Minister said.
Guerrero said his country had submitted to the Azerbaijan draft agreement on cooperation in the energy sector. He also expressed hope that the agreement would be signed shortly. A joint working group can be formed after the signing.
The Cuban Deputy Minister said at present about 90 percent of qualified staff working in the oil industry of Cuba studied in Baku. Guerrero expressed his desire to continue cooperation in the field of training for Cuba in Azerbaijan.
