Azerbaijan, Baku, June 4 / Trend , E.Ismayilov/

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and BP are planning to begin negotiations to work on perspective gas units D-8 and D-10, located in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, SOCAR First Vice-President on geology, geophysics and development of fields Khoshbakht Yusifzade said on June 4.

"Beginning of the development is still far, but it is planned to begin the negotiations to work on the D-8 and D-10 units. In the near future, their name will be changed. Work on these units is scheduled to begin in the long run, but the start date is still unknown," Yusifzade said.

Yusifzade said these units are deep, and the estimated depth there is about 7,000-7,500 meters. Most likely these units are gas, he said.

Previously, these units have undergone only two-dimensional geophysical research, Yusifzade said.

At present BP is the operator of the two giant oil and gas production projects in Azerbaijan, one of which - the development of the block of the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli fields and Shah Deniz gas-condensate field. Moreover, BP is the operator of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and the technical operator of the South Caucasus gas pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum). Currently, BP's projects account for the bulk volume of oil and gas production in Azerbaijan.
