On August 24, in an interview with the Turkmen media outlets, the ambassador of Ukraine Viktor Maiko noted "the similarity of the positions of Ukraine and Turkmenistan in the issue of future global energy security system, where the fundamentals ... are principles of openness and transparency of the energy market, especially the mechanism of price."
Ambassador said that the current year is "rich with notable events" in the bilateral Ukrainian-Turkmen relations. An official visit of Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko to Turkmenistan is planned to take place in September, which will give a new impetus to the development of inter-state contacts.
In September, a State Corporation "Ukrtransstroy" will be put into operation, which is unique not only for Turkmenistan, but also for the whole Central Asia extracurricular railway bridge across the Amu Darya River near the town of Atamurat. The opening ceremony of this important facility for the economy of Turkmenistan is supposed to be attended by the Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko and Turkmenistan President Gurbangulu Berdimuhamedov.
After a short break, Interbudmontazh Company resumed work on the construction of drainage and communication tunnel in the capital of Turkmenistan, which is scheduled to be put into operation in late 2010. Ukrainian companies - long-standing partners of Turkmenistan JSC "Sumy MNVO named after Frunze", "Ukrainian Gas Technologies" successfully work on constructing facilities for oil and gas industry of Turkmenistan. The specialists of these companies built compressor stations "Nayip", "Khazar", "Dovletabat-1.
Ukraine and Turkmenistan are actively cooperating in trade-economic sphere. Foreign trade turnover of goods and services of Ukraine and Turkmenistan for the first half of 2009 amounted to approximately $1 billion. Ukraine is one of the largest suppliers of products to the Turkmen market. The main commodities that are supplied to Turkmenistan are metallurgical products, equipment and materials, machines and mechanisms for fuel and energy sector, food industry products, grain, alcohol, etc. The traditional supplies from Turkmenistan to Ukraine are petroleum products, cotton.
