SOCAR ups gas supplies to Georgia

SOCAR (State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic) exported 645.5 million cubic meter of gas in January-August 2009, compared to 167 million cubic meters in January-August 2008, SOCAR said.

SOCAR exported about 54 million cubic meter of gas to Georgia in August 2009.

SOCAR commenced gas supplies to Georgia in April 2008. A total of 788.93 million cubic meter of gas was delivered to Georgia in 2008.

Earlier, Azerigaz CJSC (distribution and sale of gas in the country's regions) finished restoring a gas compressor station in the Agdash region (western region) as part of increasing the Azerbaijani gas deliveries to Georgia. Fuel is delivered to Georgia via the Gazimahammad-Georgian border gas pipeline. Maximal pressure is planned to increase to 20 atmosphere compared to more than 10 atmospheres now to up gas transportation via pipeline. 

In November 2008, Azerbaijan and Georgia signed the agreeemnt to stir up SOCAR's activity on Georgian gas market during next 5 years beginning from 2009. Under the agreement, Socar will launch subsidiaries to supply gas to consumer groups pinpointed by the Georgian government. Socar subsidiaries will also service consumer groups failing to receive gas in Georgia
