SOCAR conducts drilling on Russian sector of Caspian Sea

The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic's (SOCAR) Geological Research and Topography Department conducted engineering and geological drilling activities at the Sarmatsky area in the Russian sector of the Caspian Sea last month.

The drilling was carried out under a contract signed between the Latvian Morinzhgeologiya and SOCAR Geophysics and Geology Department.

Roughly 466 meters were drilled from the "Zohrab Veliyev" vessel.

An inside SOCAR source told Trend that drilling activities will be conducted until the end of this year under a contract to explore the Russian sector of the Caspian Sea. The work will be carried out at the Rakushechnoe, Sarmatsky and Korchagin areas until late 2010.

SOCAR periodically provides services to other Caspian countries under commercial contracts.

The Geophysics and Geology Department has carried out engineering and geological drilling activities this year at the Khere-Zira, Bulla-Deniz, Babak, Agburun-Deniz and West Absheron areas, and seismic profiling, sonar planning, bathymetry at the Goshadash-Agburun area.

The following vessels were used during the drilling - Z. Veliyev, A. Amirov, M. Suleymanov, Geophysicist-2 and Orion-7.
