Iran and Tajikistan sign MoU to Expand Mutual Cooperation

Iranian and Tajik officials at the end of the eighth meeting of their Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Technical and Cultural Cooperation in Dushanbe endorsed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), FARS news agency reported

The MoU was signed by Tajik Energy and Industry Minister Sherali Gul and Iranian Energy Minister Majid Namjou as the heads of the Joint Cooperation Commission.

Based on the MoU, the two sides agreed to cooperate in different fields, including energy, water, industry, mining, engineering and technical services, trade, economy, insurance, agriculture, investment, science, training, hygiene, tourism, cultural heritage, transportation, topography, telecommunication and social affairs.

Also, Tehran and Dushanbe agreed to pursue the implementation of the agreements signed in the eighth meeting of their Joint Cooperation Commission through forming a committee within two months.

According to the agreements made between the two sides, the ninth meeting of Iran-Tajikistan Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Technical and Cultural Cooperation will be held in Tehran next year.

Iran and Tajikistan have recently accelerated expansion of their ties and cooperation and observers believe that the good achievements of their mutual cooperation, specially in energy and industrial fields, should be deemed as a result of the efforts made by the two countries' officials.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, heading a high-ranking politico-economic delegation, visited Dushanbe on January 4 on the first leg of his bi-nation tour of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan to confer on the further bolstering of bilateral ties and cooperation in meetings with senior officials of the two Central Asian states.

The two countries inked three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and two documents on mutual cooperation during Ahmadinejad's trip.

The visit was followed by Rahmon's trip to Tehran in August to attend a trilateral summit of the Iranian, Tajik and Afghan heads of state.
