Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct. 7 / Trend E. Ismayilov /

The exploratory work is conducted within the construction project of a new gas pipeline. It will connect Igdir (Turkey) and Sederek in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR), SOCAR senior representative said.

"Now we are studying the relief of the pipeline," SOCAR representative said.

SOCAR intends to build a new gas pipeline to improve gas supply. The second gas pipeline will reduce the dependence of Nakhchivan from Iran and strengthen its energy security.

Azerbaijan supplies Nakhchivan with gas due to the swap operations with Iran. Azerbaijan transports about 1-1,2 million cubic meters of gas per day to Iran.

SOCAR's another source said that a feasibility study was prepared.

SOCAR will pay all costs for the construction of a new gas pipeline Igdir-Nakhchivan, according to the memorandum signed between Azerbaijan and Turkey. The pipeline will hit 180 kilometers (with six gas distribution stations).
