The oil companies operating in Kazakhstan made more than 600 violations of the requirements of industrial safety at the facilities in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea, Kazakh Emergency Situations Minister Vladimir Bozhko said at the parliament.
"The ministry surveyed 273 facilities in 34 enterprises engaged in production of oil in the Caspian Sea over 10 months of 2010. The ministry revealed 617 violations and prosecuted 56 officals," he said.
Bozhko said the ministry takes active measures to tighten state control over oil operations in the Sea in connection with the conduct of intensive oil operations in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea, as well as to prevent accidents similar to the explosion of a drilling platform in the Gulf of Mexico.
