SOCAR starts drilling new oil well in Caspian Sea

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has started drilling a new well on the "Guneshli” field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, SOCAR said today.

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has started drilling a new well on the "Guneshli" field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, SOCAR said today.

According to the report, the well is being drilled from the "Guneshli - 6" platform. The project depth of the new well is 3,750 meters. According to the SOCAR geologists' calculations, its daily debit could reach 250,000 cubic meters of gas and 40 tons of oil.

It is envisaged that the well, which is being drilled on the order of the Oil and Gas Department "28 May", will be commissioned in May next year.

The shallow part of the "Guneshli" field will be developed by SOCAR at its own expense, and the deep-water part in the block of fields "Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli" - jointly with a consortium of foreign companies.
