Azerbaijan, Baku, June 7 / Trend E. Ismayilov /

Georgia plans to complete the construction of the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey energy bridge by late May 2012, Georgian Energy Minister Alexander Khetaguri said in Baku today.

"We actively work," he said. "The construction has been already launched. We will be ready by late May 2012."

He said that the Azerbaijani side is currently engaged in the design work. The construction will be launched in the nearest future.

The creation of the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey energy bridge will give the country the opportunity to transport to Europe power with a capacity of 600-700 megawatts, head of Azerenergy Etibar Pirverdiyev said earlier.

A 500-kilovolt transmission line is expected to be constructed from Mingechevir to the border with Georgia under this project.

Pirverdiyev said the total capacity of the new transformers in the Azerbaijani transmission system will reach 4,000 megawatts and the length of the 110-500-kilovolt lines will increase by approximately 1,500 kilometers under the projects planned for 2010-2015.
