Azerbaijan, Russia intend to enhance cooperation in power industry

Azerbaijan and Russia are in talks to enhance cooperation in power industry within an agreement dated Oct.7, 1995, a source at the Azerbaijani Industry and Energy Ministry said on Tuesday.
He said in particular, the sides discuss issues related to parallel operation of power systems, power exchange, technical and commercial issues.
A project to synchronize power systems of Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran is one of the promising projects.
Implementation of this project will allow the mutual exchange of electricity between countries and also connect other countries of the region to this project. Earlier, Russia and Iran held talks on type of cooperation. One side insisted on the mutual electricity sale, the other - on the exchange.
Azerbaijan also continuously carries out planned electricity overflows with Iran, Turkey and Georgia.
