PetroKazakhstan increased oil production up to 5.9 million tons in 2011, the company's press-service said on Wednesday.

"In 2011 PetroKazakhstan produced 5.9 million tons of oil, including a 50 percent share in "Kazgermunai" and "Turgay Petroleum". Of these on PetroKazakhstan Kumkol Resources and Kolzhan - 3.2 million tons, which is 180,000 tons more than in 2010, on "Turgay Petroleum" - 1.25 million tons, "KazGerMunai" - 1.5 million tons," the statement said.

The increase in production was achieved mainly due to such young fields as Aryskum, East Kumkol, Tuzkol, Kolzhan, Karabulak. In 2011 95 new wells were commissioned, of which 63 mining and 32 exploration. Under the license 951-D 3D-seismic survey of 150 square kilometers was carried out. Under the contract, 1057 seismic surveys were held at the area of 300 square kilometers.

One of the most important achievements in 2011 were industrial development of East Kumkol field, as well as the resumed exploration in the East Karabulak and Tuzkol, which allowed to provide for a significant increase in oil reserves.

In 2011 the annual plan for the processing of raw materials and producing finished products was executed at 107 percent. Thus, last year the volume of processing crude oil at PetroKazakhstan Oil Products (Shimkent refinery) amounted to 4.6 million tons with an annual plan of 4.3 million tons," the statement said.

In 2011 record figure of production of high octane gasoline (63 per cent of the total volume of gasoline produced), compared with 2010 (an increase of 91,000 tons) was achieved. Oil refining increased by 28,000 tons, compared with last year. The plant increased its production of winter diesel, fuel oil and high-octane grades of gasoline.

"During 2011 the specialists of the plant carried out extensive work to improve the quality of products. Preparations for implementing the program of modernization of the refinery are underway, under which construction of seven processing plants, as well as the reconstruction of three existing plants are envisaged" the statement said.

The aim of the project of modernization and reconstruction of the plant are the transition to production of petroleum products compliant with Euro 4 and Euro 5 standards from 2016, bringing the refinery capacity to design - six million tons per year, as well as increase in depth of processing and production of light oil products.
