Kyrgyzstan returns all radioactive coal to Kazakhstan

Kyrgyzstan has completed removal of Kazakh radioactive coal from Bishkek Thermal Power Plant, Kabar agency reported with reference to the Kyrgyz company Electric stations.

"The whole volume of coal imported by Kyrgyzstan has been returned back. According to the agreement, Kulan TB company reimbursed all costs of Electric stations for radioactive coal export," the company said.

Kazakhstan supplied 8,576 tons of coal from Kulan field to Kyrgyzstan in September. Later, the Kyrgyz party estimated the radiation background of the Kulan field at 8-10 times more than the norm. The criminal cases were filed in both countries on radioactive coal supplies. Kazakhstan's coal supplier Kulan TB agreed to take the coal back to Kazakhstan and reimburse all costs of Kyrgyzsytan's coal importer Electric stations.
