President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov severely reprimanded Deputy Chairman of the country's Cabinet of Ministers Baymurad Hodjamukhammedov, the Turkmen government said on Saturday.

The document says that the reason was "unsatisfactory fulfillment of duties, weakening of control over activities of supervised ministries and sectoral departments, as well as slow pace of work in the development of oil and gas fields".

At the same time, the report says that natural gas production in the first three months of 2012 amounted to 119.1 percent compared to the same period of last year. Blue fuel exports also increased significantly and this figure reached 129 percent.

Berdimuhammadov emphasized the importance of fuel and energy sector of national economy, which plays an important role in the dynamic development of the country.

"In this regard, the President demanded to eliminate shortages in fulfilling the tasks and previously given instructions on the development of oil and gas industry," the report says.

According to a British Petroleum (BP) report, Turkmenistan ranks fourth after Russia, Iran and Qatar for its natural gas reserves in the world.
