In September, State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) will ship oil totaling 160,000 tons from the Russian port of Novorossiysk. Oil from Novorossiysk will be shipped in two butches - 80,000 tons each.
Around 2.86 million tons of oil will be shipped from Novorossiysk in September.
SOCAR transships oil extracted at its own fields, as well as oil of joint ventures and operating companies working in the Azerbaijani onshore fields through Novorossiysk. Oil is delivered to the port via the Baku-Novorossiysk oil pipeline.
The oil company exported 1.99 million tons of oil in 2011, compared to 2.2 million tons in 2010. In 2009 it exported 2.48 million tons of oil compared to 1.2 million tons in 2008. SOCAR previously exported 1.2 million tons of oil, which is the same as in 2006 and exports through the Baku - Novorossiysk pipeline amounted to 1.6 million tons in 2005.
Azerbaijan International Operating Company (AIOC) became the operator of the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline in late 2007. It then transferred its functions to SOCAR.
