According to the forecasts, during the gas injection season in 2013 which begins between spring and summer, it is planned to boost gas reserves to 3.5 billion cubic meters in underground facilities in Azerbaijan, a source of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) said on Monday.

There are two underground gas storage facilities in Azerbaijan - Kalmaz and Garadag. The source said the same forecasts were made for 2013, as per gas injection season in 2012.

The volume of gas injection into underground storage facilities will be increased to five billion cubic meters in future. This will be possible thanks to drilling new wells, repair of old wells, as well as raising the power of gas compressor stations.

"These are our plans for future, but volumes between three and 3.5 billion cubic meters are projected for 2013," the source said.

According to the results of the 2012 injection season, the volume of gas in underground facilities of the country amounted to about 3.3 billion cubic meters compared to about 3.25 billion cubic meters in the previous season. In particular, 2.11 billion cubic meters of gas were pumped last year.
