The National Joint-Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine and Turkmengas State Concern signed a memorandum of understanding in Ashgabat on Wednesday, an official Turkmen source said.
The purpose of the document is to enhance bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas sector. The document provides for the development of the further cooperation on a contractual basis.
The signing ceremony was held in the framework of the state visit of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych to Turkmenistan (February 12-14).
Other documents were signed as well. Among them: a program of cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries in 2013, an agreement on cooperation between the national Olympic committees, a memorandum of understanding between the State Financial Monitoring Service of Ukraine and the Ministry of Finance of Turkmenistan in countering legalization of proceeds of crime (money laundering) and financing of terrorism, an agreement between the Kyiv Regional State Administration of Ukraine and Executive powers of the Akhal velayat (region) of Turkmenistan on trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych signed a joint statement on deepening the friendship and cooperation between the countries.
The document stressed the desire of the parties to further intensify the political dialogue, including at the highest levels, and the intention to work closely in the international arena, particularly within the UN and other global and regional organizations, including concerning the strengthening of sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of states.
