On 4-5 November 2013 the International conference on "Global View on Environmental Issues in Oil Industry" will take place at the Fairmont Baku Hotel with support from the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), Iteca Caspian LLC and the International Dialogue for Environmental Action (IDEA) will provide organisational support.
The event is dedicated to the 90th Anniversary of the National Leader of Azerbaijani nation - Heydar Aliyev.
The conference is expected to bring together more than 200 delegates, including representatives of government agencies and oil & gas companies from around the world, alongside scientists and leading experts in the field of ecology. Speakers include: the heads of SOCAR; IDEA; Azerbaijani Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources; BP, Valeh Alasgarov, Deputy Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Chairman of the Parliamentarian Committee on Energy and Hon Tim Yeo, Chairman of the Energy and Climate Change Select Committee of the House of Commons and others.
The conference aims not only at analysing the current environmental issues but to develop relevant proposals for their solution within a framework of international cooperation. The conference will touch on issues such as the development of the oil and gas industry and air emissions; the impact of offshore oil and gas operations on water basins; the restoration and management of soil polluted with oil and oil products; innovative management of the oil industry wastes; and alternative energy and energy efficiency in oil and gas operations.
