Russian Vnesheconombank attracts loan from China Development Bank for Ekibastuz GRES-2 in Kazakhstan

Russian Vnesheconombank attracted a loan from the China Development Bank for the construction of the third power unit at Ekibastuz GRES-2 in Kazakhstan, the bank reported on Tuesday.

The loan agreement was signed by the presidents of two banks at the 8th regular meeting between the governments of Russia and China in Beijing. The signing ceremony was attended by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Premier of the Chinese State Council Li Keqiang.

According to the document, Vnesheconombank attracted a $400 million loan from the China Development Bank to fund the construction of the third power unit at Ekibastuz GRES-2.

Vnesheconombank has been funding the construction of the third power unit at GRES-2 since June 2010. In general the bank will allocate 12 billion rubles to the project (31.9 rubles = $1).

Ekibastuz GRES -1 and Ekibastuz GRES-2 are thermal power plants in the city of Ekibastuz in the Pavlodarregion in Kazakhstan situated 450 kilometres north of Astana.
