Iran's petchem output ups 10%, more growth expected

Iran increased petrochemical production by 10 percent to 6.7 million tons during 48 days of the current fiscal year (started on March 21), compared to the same period of the last fiscal year, Shana news agency quoted Ali Mohammad Bassaqzadeh, the director of the National Petrochemical Company of Iran as saying on May 11.

He added that the country produced 46.4 million tons of petrochemical products during the last fiscal year, but for the current year, the figure is planned to reach 54.7 million tons.

He added that Iran's idle petrochemical production capacity stood at 11 million tons during the last fiscal year, of which 4.7 million tons was due to technical problems.

Iran exported 18.1 million tons of petrochemical products during the last fiscal year, while the domestic consumption stood at 14.95 million tons.
