SOCAR discloses drilling plans in 2017

Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR plans to drill 93 new wells in 2017, Rovnag Abdullayev, president of SOCAR, said in an article published in the special issue of the country’s Iki Sahil newspaper.

He added that drilling of new wells remains the most reliable way of increasing oil and gas production.

"Positive dynamics in drilling is one of the priorities of the company's activity,” the article says. “SOCAR drilled 93,650 meters and commissioned 52 new wells for eight months of 2017."

According to the article, drilling is underway at such offshore fields as Umid, Gunashli, Chilov, Oil Rocks, Darwin Bank, Bulla Deniz, Western Absheron, as well as onshore fields Garadagh, Pirallahi, Saadan.

Abdullayev said that around 148,000 meters are planned to be drilled and 93 new wells are planned to be commissioned in 2017.

In 2016, SOCAR drilled 105,250 meters compared to 104,410 meters drilled in 2015.

SOCAR includes such production unions as Azneft (the enterprises producing oil and gas onshore and offshore), Azerikimya (the chemical enterprises) and Azerigas (distributor of gas produced in the country), as well as oil and gas processing plants, service companies and the facilities involved in geophysical and drilling operations.
