SOCAR reveals volume of gas export to Georgia

Baku, Azerbaijan, Jan.31

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

In total, 2.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas was exported from Azerbaijan to Georgia as of 2017, head of SOCAR Energy Georgia Mahir Mammadov told Trend.

He noted that Georgia receives gas from Azerbaijan via South Caucasus pipeline and Baku-Gazimammad-Gazakh pipeline.

Taking about Georgia’s 2018 natural gas balance, where gas supplies from Russia to Georgia are not envisaged, Mammadov said that those volumes will be substituted by imports of natural gas from Azerbaijan.

“Georgian Gas Transportation Company and Russia’s Gazprom have changed the terms of payments for the transit of Russian gas through Georgia’s territory. In accordance with these changes, Gazprom will pay for transportation of its gas through Georgia not with gas, as it was up until now, but by paying for transit services. Thus, Georgia’s 2018 natural gas balance doesn’t envisage Russian gas supplies. These volumes will be substituted by imports of natural gas from Azerbaijan. The actual gas consumption may fluctuate depending on the weather conditions and the operating mode of the power generating stations,” he added.

According to Georgia’s gas balance for 2018, in general, the country’s natural gas demand will stand at more than 2.689 billion cubic meters.

Meanwhile, Georgia plans to obtain 2.679 billion cubic meters (99.65 percent) of gas from Azerbaijan, including 1.866 billion cubic meters from the state oil company SOCAR and 813 million cubic meters, produced as part of development of the Shah Deniz field.

The remaining part (9.41 million cubic meters) will be provided thanks to local production.

Supplies of gas from Russia to Georgia are not envisaged in 2018.
