Azerbaijan invested $482.1 million in Georgia’s economy in 2017 that is 13.6 percent less than in 2016, according to a report of the National Statistics Office of Georgia.
Azerbaijan invested $96.7 million in the Georgian economy in 1Q17, $127.2 million – in 2Q17, $154.1 million – in 3Q17 and $104.1 million – in 4Q17.
According to the report, Azerbaijan continues to maintain its leadership in terms of the volume of foreign direct investment in the economy of Georgia. Azerbaijan accounted for about 26 percent of all investments put in Georgia.
Turkey ranks second ($279 million) and the UK ranks third ($250.4 million).
In total, foreign countries invested more than $1.86 billion in Georgia’s economy, and some $527.1 million of this volume accounted for investments in sphere of transportation and communication, $304.3 million – accounted for the financial sector, $294.6 million – accounted for the construction sector and $188.6 million – accounted for the energy sector.
