Baku, Azerbaijan, April 3

Akkuyu nuclear power plant will play an important role in Turkey’s energy sector, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Berat Albayrak said before the foundation-laying ceremony of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant, Turkish media reported April 3.
Albayrak noted that the Akkuyu nuclear power plant will also contribute to the development of the Turkish economy.
He said that the nuclear power plant’s construction can be called the “birth” of the Turkish energy sector.
Turkey’s TAEK atomic energy authority on April 2 granted Russian builder Rosatom a construction license to start work on the first unit of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant.
The Akkuyu nuclear power plant is the first BOO (build-own-operate) nuclear power plant project in the world.
