Uzbekistan plans to build about 25 large solar power stations in the next 10 years, Trend reports with reference to Deputy Minister of Energy Sherzod Hadzhaev.
"The country's first 100 MW solar power plant is scheduled to be commissioned in the Navoi region. We plan to start construction work this year and complete them within two years. Up to 2030, another 25 such stations are planned to be built," he said.
He stated that this year Uzbekistan plans to generate 67.5 billion kWh of electricity, and in 2030 this figure will reach 120 billion kWh.
Expert estimates that the total potential of solar energy in the country exceeds 51 billion tons of oil equivalents.
Cayman Islands company SkyPower Global intends to invest $1.3 billion in the construction of solar power plants in Uzbekistan. The facilities are planned to be built in Tashkent, Samarkand, Navoi, Jizzak, Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions.
Moreover, German Graess Energy has already begun construction of a solar power plant in Muinak. Its capacity will be 20 MW. The German company will invest $24 million in this project.
