By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Six out of 10 people, injured as a result of the explosion on “Israfil Huseynov” vessel operated by Italy’s Saipem company in the Caspian Sea, are discharged and continuing recovery at their home cities, while four are still in hospitals in UK, Italy and Turkey, Saipem told Trend.

However, the company refused to answer the question about the current state of the vessel.

“We cannot disclose exact information about the progress of our projects, due to confidentiality agreement with our clients, as you surely know and understand, but we are continuing to work on the various projects in Azerbaijan, which continues to be an important country of operations for Saipem,” said the company.

On May 8 in the evening, an explosion occurred on the vessel “Israfil Huseynov” operated by Saipem for pipelaying in the Caspian Sea in the framework of the Shah Deniz II project.

In the early hours of morning on May 9, the transportation to hospital of the fourteen people involved in the accident, all employees of the Saipem Group, was completed.

The company said the incident was related to maintenance operations on an item of equipment during pipe-laying activities.
