The goal of the construction of the Kobuleti section of the East-West main gas pipeline is to ensure guaranteed uninterrupted gas supply to Georgian Adjara, as well as significantly increase the security of gas supplies to the region, the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation (GOGC) told Trend.

According to GOGC, the construction of the initial 45-kilometer section of the gas pipeline was completed in 2018. Currently, construction work is underway on a 12.5 km long section. The expected construction period is the end of 2019.

“It was decided to carry out the construction of a branch to Kobuleti to replace the existing gas pipeline. The existing gas pipeline, due to its poor condition, could not provide the growing demand for gas in the Adjara Autonomous Republic and the Black Sea resorts,” GOGC said.

As reported, the project will provide growing demand for gas throughout the region for many years to come.

The East-West gas pipeline renewal and modernization program, implemented by GOGC since 2010 with the financial support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is carried out with the aim of increasing its throughput, as well as improving the technological reliability and stability of the functioning of the unified gas supply system of Georgia.
