Iran raises gasoline price by 50%

TEHRAN, Iran, Nov. 15

Trend:

National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) has announced that from November 15, the gasoline price in the country will increase from 23 cents to 35 cents (15,000 rials) per liter.

The increase means a 50-percent increase in the price of subsidized gasoline, Trend reports citing the official website of Iran's president.

NIORDC says that the sudden increase in price is due to Iran's Supreme Council's decision.

The use of fuel cards for gasoline has been mandatory since August 11 this year in Iran.

The directive issued by the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company said that the plan, which was first implemented in 2007, has nothing to do with fuel rationing as had been rumored over the past few months.
