BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec.19

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

A solemn ceremony of putting into operation of the first wind park constructed by Italy’s Eni company took place in Kazakhstan’s Aktobe region, Trend reports with reference to Kazakh Invest National Company.

The construction of a power plant of 48 MW of capacity began in December last year. Annual capacity output is expected to be nearly 200 GW an hour. The cost of the project amounted to nearly $100 million.

The project is expected to decrease CO2 emissions by over 172,000 tons a year.

Some 480 workers and 14 Kazakh construction companies were engaged in the construction, and 15 high qualification jobs are to be created in the future.

“The company is planning to implement a number of renewable energy projects in Kazakhstan in the following years. Thus, in September this year, the company has won an auction for additional 48 MW to expand the capacity of the launched plant, whereas in November, Eni was selected to construct 50 MW solar plant in country’s Turkestan region,” the report said.

Eni has been present in Kazakhstan since 1992. The company is joint operator of the Karachaganak field and is an equity partner in various projects in the Northern Caspian Sea, including the giant Kashagan field. Eni also is the joint subsoil user and joint operator of the offshore exploration blocks Isatay and Abay. Equity production is currently 180,000 barrel of oil equivalent per day.
