Uzbekistan presents project on construction of power plant at investor forum

Tashkent hosted an investor forum on the project in the field of power engineering - construction of a power plant with a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) in the Syrdarya region, Trend reports with the reference to the press service of the Ministry of Energy.

The proposed project on construction of a combined cycle power plant with capacity of 1500 MW is another PPP-based project in the energy sector of Uzbekistan. At present, in particular, three projects are under implementation, including design, financing, construction and operation of photovoltaic (solar) stations with capacity of 200 MW each in Samarkand, Jizzakh regions and Sherabad.

The conference was attended by representatives of major international companies such as Sumitomo, Mitsui, Engie, EDF, Kepco, AcwaPower, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Marubeni and other interested parties from different countries including Turkey, China, South Korea, Japan, Italy, France, the UAE, Kuwait, Spain, Russia, India and Germany who expressed interest in participating in PPP projects.

At the end of the investor conference, 31 companies expressed their desire to participate in the tender.

It should be added that the tender bidding for construction of a power plant with combined cycle gas turbines in Syrdarya region on the basis of PPP is being held in two stages.

The first stage was held in Uzbekistan in 2019 with the support of IFC, the results of which were announced on October 4. The tender was held for construction of the first photovoltaic (solar) station (PES) with capacity of 100 MW in Navoi region.

The first stage of the international tender was attended by 23 companies from China, South Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, India, South Africa, Russia, Spain, Norway and France, of which 11 companies were pre-qualified.

Tender bids were submitted by 5 companies: Acwa Power (Saudi Arabia), Jinko Power and Aljoimah Energy & Water Consortium (China/Saudi Arabia), Masdar (the UAE), TBEA Xinjiang Sunoasis Co Ltd (China) and Total Eren (France).

Based on the results of examination and evaluation of technical and commercial proposals of the bidders, the tender committee declared Masdar Company (UAE) the winner of the first stage of the international tender with the tariff of 2,679 cents for 1 kWh of generated electricity and construction period of 12 months.
