Oil output volume at Azerbaijan’s Kursangi and Garabagli fields announced

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 20

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The volume of daily oil production at Azerbaijan’s Kursangi and Garabagli fields stood at an average of 390 tons in the first quarter of 2020, a source in the country’s oil and gas market told Trend.

“Production at the fields is on schedule. Due to the current situation in the global oil market, we are not currently taking any additional measures to increase production. Production at the fields is stable at 390 tons per day. Currently, well punching and other geological work are underway in the fields in order to prevent a sharp decline in production. With the help of small repair works, we try to avoid losses in the production process,” the source said.

According to the source, at the moment, production at the fields is conducted from 235 wells.

However, the source noted that work on the application of Chinese technology at the Kursangi and Garabagli fields was temporarily suspended due to the pandemic.

The resumption of work depends on the further development of the situation, he added.

This technology is about injecting hot air into the reservoirs, which will allow to raise the oil recovery ratio by 15-20 percent and resume production at exhausted and old wells.

If the pilot project brings positive results, this technology will also be used in other projects of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR.

The contract for development of Kursangi and Garabagli fields was signed in 1998 for a period of 25 years. The shareholders of Salyan Oil are Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR and China National Oil & Gas Exploration and Development.

The fields are located in Azerbaijan’s Salyan district, around 150 kilometers from Baku. Some experts believe that the remaining reserves on the contract area exceed 150 million tons.

The volume of daily oil production at Kursangi and Garabagli fields stood at an average of 400 tons in 2019.
