Iran's potential to transport oil and oil products can be increased by 20 percent, Executive Director of Iranian Oil Pipelines and Telecommunication Company (IOPTC) Arab Yar Mohammadi said, Trend reports National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company’s (NIOPDC) website.
According to Yar Mohammadi, it is possible to increase this potential technically using the chemical DRI.
Yar Mohammadi added that at present, 80,000-270,000 barrels of oil and oil products are transported daily through pipelines in Iran, and the increase may bring the figures up to 320,000 barrels.
The official said that until a few years ago, foreign-made equipment was used to transport oil and oil products in Iran. At present, more than 70 percent of equipment, including electric pumps and other equipment, is produced domestically.
Iranian crude oil is mainly extracted in the southern and southwestern provinces of the country. This oil is transported via pipelines to refineries in other provinces.
Iran has 125 oil fields and 59 gas fields. The country's total hydrocarbon reserves are estimated at 836 billion barrels. With available technology and equipment, Iran can extract 239 billion barrels. Thus, 29 percent of the country hydrocarbon reserves are recoverable, while 71 percent remain underground.
