Azerbaijan developing new alternative energy project

By Nargiz Ismayilova – Trend:

Azerbaijan's State Agency on Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources (SAARES) is developing a project based on three technologies within a project on alternative energy supply to remote settlements, villages and areas in 2020, Deputy Chairman of the State Agency Jamil Malikov told Trend.

“Around the world, there are already developed technologies and proven methods of providing the population with heat, if there are not a gasification system and a corresponding infrastructure in the field of natural gas supplies,” deputy chairman added.

“We analyzed the world experience in Europe and the CIS countries related to solving the problems in this sphere,” Malikov added. “Thus, the relevant methods of providing the population with heat and thermal energy, i.e. providing the settlements with hot water and gas, heating of houses, social facilities and schools are being developed."

“The Agency recognized the use of certain technologies as the most appropriate method,” deputy chairman said. “The project will be mainly based on three types of technologies. The first most well-known and proven technology is the technology associated with the use of modern bio heating systems.”

“Combi-ovens heat the house and also provide the house with hot water, which accordingly allows installing centralized heating in the houses,” Malikov said. “Moreover, it is possible to cook food on these ovens and use them to meet other household needs."

One of the most important spheres of activity of the Agency this year is the establishment of alternative energy supply in remote settlements, villages and areas.

For this purpose, the agency chose 12 pilot projects to be implemented in villages of the country's Lankaran, Guba, Sheki-Zagatala and Samukh-Shamkir regions. Within the projects, SAARES develops proposals on the possibility of using alternative energy sources.

Presently, Azerbaijan is taking sequential steps to develop alternative energy. In this regard, negotiations are underway with foreign companies and investors, including companies from China, the UAE, the US and the EU.

An alternative energy source is a renewable resource, it replaces traditional energy sources operating on oil, natural gas and coal, which, when burned, emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, and this contributes to an increase in the greenhouse effect and global warming.

The reason for the search for alternative energy sources is the need to receive it from the energy of renewable or practically inexhaustible natural resources and phenomena. Among other advantages are environmental friendliness and profitability.
