More citizens of Georgia to receive access to natural gas in 3 years

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 27

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The government of Georgia will continue to provide natural gas supply to areas of the country where it is still not available, Trend reports via Georgian media.

"In three years, 211 villages or 33,000 families will have access to natural gas," said Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia.

The government of Georgia started a three-year gas supply plan in 2019, within which 384 villages will receive access to natural gas.

"Of course this is not enough and the government has made the decision to continue the gas supply plan with a new governmental program as a result of which another 211 families will receive natural gas in 2021-2024. This means that 90 percent of the Georgian population will have access to natural gas", Gakharia said.

A total of 659 million lari ($205.2 million) will be spent on gas supply in Georgia in 2013-2021, said Gakharia who added that in 2012-2020 the government of Georgia spent 23 billion lari ($7.1 billion) on system infrastructure projects.

"The Georgian government will spend twice as much in 2021-2024. This is the money that will be spent on roads, gas, water, schools, kindergartens - all of which should bring our daily lives closer and closer to European standards," said Gakharia.
