Uzbekistan to study Germany’s experience in renewable energy field

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 25

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

Uzbekistan plans to study the positive experience of Germany in the development of renewable energy sources and storage of electric energy for further stabilization of the electric power industry in the country, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.

A webinar dedicated to studying the German experience in the development of renewable energy sources and their integration into the energy infrastructure was held on November 23, 2020, in the format of video conferencing with the participation of more than 30 specialists from the German Energy Agency (DENA), Berlin Economics German consulting company, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Berlin, the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Innovative Development of Uzbekistan, National Electric Grids of Uzbekistan JSC and Energia Coordinating Dispatch Center.

Germany is the largest producer of electricity in the European Union with a specific share of 18.7 percent and an aggregate output of 605 billion kWh at the end of 2019.

The share of renewable energy sources in total electricity consumption in Germany over the period 1990-2019 increased from 3.4 percent (18.9 billion kWh) to 42.1 percent (244.3 billion kWh), and the total capacity of renewable energy facilities increased from 4.2 to 124.4 GW, including wind power plants 60.8 GW and solar PV power plants 49 GW.

Currently, the number of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in Germany has exceeded 1.7 million units with a total installed capacity of 52.7 GW, and more than 1.1 million German households have their own small solar PV plants with a capacity of less than 10 kW and more than 250,000 with electric energy storage systems.

Some 3.5 GW of solar and 1.2 GW of wind power plants were commissioned this year despite the current situation with COVID-19 in Germany.

The Government of Germany in October 2019 approved a climate protection program, which determines an increase in the share of renewable energy sources in electricity consumption up to 65 percent, that is to the level of 377 billion kWh.

It was envisaged to increase the total capacity of renewable energy facilities to 203 GW to achieve these target parameters by 2030, including solar PV power plants up to 98 GW and wind power plants up to 91 GW.
