Uzbekistan to introduce monitoring system for seismic geodynamic processes at oil & gas fields

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 30

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

Uzbekistan will introduce the monitoring system of the impact of the development of oil and gas fields on seismic geodynamic processes, Trend reports with reference to Norma.uz information and legal portal.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution on improving the monitoring system for the impact of oil and gas production on seismic geodynamic processes in accordance with the Presidential Decree "On the State Program for the Implementation of the Strategy of Action in Five Priority Areas of Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021 in the Year of Development of Science, Education, and the Digital Economy".

The resolution approved the proposal of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Academy of Sciences, and the Ministry of Energy on the introduction of a system for monitoring the impact of hydrocarbon production on seismic geodynamic processes from March 1, 2021. The system has been tested on the basis of international experience in the development of the Dengizkul, Hisor, Kandym, and Okkul fields.

The monitoring system will conduct regular complex seismometric, geophysical, space-geodetic observations, provide local and foreign companies involved in the extraction of hydrocarbon raw materials with information on changes in seismicity at the fields.

In addition, it will forecast the probability and scale of strong man-made earthquakes causing emergency situations, as well as promptly informing interested organizations about certain hazardous situations arising from a change in the seismic regime.

The Ministry of Energy was instructed, together with the Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, to form a list of developed oil and gas fields, where a monitoring system will be organized until January 1, 2021.

The ministry will also take control over the creation by local and foreign companies of the necessary conditions for the implementation of the monitoring system, as well as the provision in the prescribed manner of all information necessary for conducting research.

In addition, together with the Ministry of Information Technologies and Development of Communications, the Ministry of Energy was instructed to improve the functions of the departmental information system formed in the Electronic Government system, taking into account the introduction of a monitoring system.
