Navoiazot, the largest chemical enterprise in Uzbekistan, plans to launch a methanol production unit with a capacity of 295,400 tons per year in early December, Trend reports citing Argus Media global energy and commodity price reporting agency.

The manufacturer plans to export most of the methanol since the demand for this product in the domestic market does not exceed 1,000 tons per month.

The closest export market for the company is Kazakhstan, which buys methanol from Russia - about 40,000 tons per year.

The agency noted that after the commissioning of capacities, the volume of export shipments to Kazakhstan will increase, and Navoiazot will compete with Russian suppliers in this market.

According to the information, the existing capacities allow Navoiazot to produce about 1,000 tons of methanol per month. The bulk of the product is shipped to local producers, who use it to prevent hydrate formation in oil and gas wells. The plant also uses methanol in its own production of resins and formalin.

Navoiazot JSC is the largest chemical enterprise in Uzbekistan commissioned in 1964. The plant specializes in the production of nitrogen fertilizers, polyacrylonitrile fibers (nitron), and integral organic synthesis products.

Earlier new ammonia and urea (carbamide) plants were commissioned at the Navoiazot facility in Uzbekistan. The current production capacity of the plant amounts to 660,000 tons of ammonia and 577,500 tons of carbamide per year.
