New electricity facilities to be put into operation in Iran

New electricity facilities worth about 59.4 trillion rials (about $1.41 billion) will be put into operation in Iran's Khuzestan, Sistan and Baluchestan and Razavi Khorasan provinces tomorrow (December 3), Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian said, Trend reports citing Ministry of Energy of Iran.

The minister emphasized that five small-scale power plants with the total generation capacity of 61 megawatts of electricity will be put into operation in the Khuzestan Province (southwestern Iran).

In general, 9.59 trillion rials (about $228 million) was spent on the construction of these power plants.

“In addition, power distribution and transmission lines will be put into operation in Khuzestan Province. And about 1.49 trillion rials (about $35.5 million) was spent for this purpose,” he added.

Ardakanian noted that 400-kilovolt Zahedan-Bam substation and the 25-megawatt Saravan small power plant will be put into operation in Sistan and Baluchestan Province (southeastern Iran).

“At the same time, the 11-megawatt Iranshahr station, the first unit of the Mil-Nader wind turbine with the capacity of 2.5 megawatt-hours and power transmission lines also will be put into operation in Sistan and Baluchestan Province,” he said.

According to the minister, a total of 14.3 trillion rials (about $340 million) was spent on the construction of electricity facilities in Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

Ardakanian stressed that the first steam unit of the 160-megawatt Ferdowsi combined cycle power plant will be launched in the Razavi Khorasan Province (northeastern Iran). About 34 trillion rials (about $809 million) was spent on the construction of this unit.
