The launch of a solar photovoltaic station in the Karmaninsky district of the Navoi region of Uzbekistan is scheduled for October 2021, Trend reports referring to Uzbek media.

According to the information, Masdar Company (UAE) continues work on the construction of a solar photovoltaic station in the Karmaninsky district of the Navoi region of Uzbekistan. The project for the construction of a 100 MW plant is being implemented on the basis of a public-private partnership.

It is reported that the commissioning of a solar photovoltaic station is scheduled for October 2021. It is noted that this solar photovoltaic station will be the first industrial-scale power plant based on renewable energy sources in Uzbekistan.

The station will annually produce 270 gigawatt-hours of electricity from solar energy per year, enough to supply more than 31,000 households with electricity. In addition, its operation will prevent emissions of 156,000 metric tons of greenhouse gases per year.

In addition, 300,000 photovoltaic panels will be installed on a 268-hectare site 35 kilometers east of Navoi city.

It is reported that to date Uzbekistan generates 85 percent of its electricity at thermal power plants. Thanks to the new project, the country will be able to reduce its dependence on natural gas and coal.

“The construction of the station will also increase the use of renewable energy sources and contribute to electricity generation, which is projected to grow from 65,000 GWh in 2019 to 103,000 GWh by 2030,” the message said.

It was also noted that Masdar is committed to supplying electricity for 25 years at just 2.679 cents per kilowatt-hour, the lowest solar tariff in Central Asia today. At the same time, the project company Nur Navoi Solar, set up to implement the project, will sell electricity at the aforementioned fixed price until 2046.
