Excavation of well in Iran's Ahvaz oil field launched

The excavation of well No. 172 has been launched related to increase of extraction from 1st and 4th oil reservoirs of the Ahvaz field in the Khuzestan Province (southwestern Iran), said Masoud Mohtashamifar, the executor of the plan of the Oil & Energy Industries Development Company (OEID) on the development of the 1st and 4th reservoirs of the Ahvaz field, Trend reports citing the National Iranian Drilling Company’s website.

He made the remark in a meeting held on the development of the Ahvaz field.

The official noted that according to the plan for development of the reservoirs, 6 development and 6 repair wells will be drilled and 10 pumps will be installed inside the wells.

Mohtashamifar added that the drilling work in the two reservoirs is estimated to be completed within 24 months.

Speaking at the meeting, the head of the Drilling Projects Department of the National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) Jahangir Shojaei said that the NIDC had allocated four drilling rigs to carry out drilling work within the project under a contract with the OEID.

The Ahvaz oil field is located in the Ahvaz county of Khuzestan Province (southwestern Iran).

The field contains more than 65 billion barrels of oil, of which 37 billion barrels can be extracted. Iran extracts 800,000 barrels of oil and 13 million cubic meters of gas per day from the Ahvaz oil field.
