Several TPPs, renewable energy power plants to be launched in Iran - Energy Minister

As many as 3 thermal power plants and 7 alternative renewable energy power plants will be launched in Iran in the first half of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through September 22, 2021), the Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

As of next week, new water and electricity facilities will be put into operation in Iran. So, 5 water dams, 10 irrigation networks, 3 water filtration centers, 5 sewage filtration centers will be put into operation in the next week, according to Ardakanian.

“In general, a number of water and electricity facilities were put into operation in Iran in the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021). A total of 810 trillion rials (about $19.2 billion) was spent on all these facilities. More than 50 percent of this money was invested by the private sector,” he added.

The minister noted that in the water sector, 14 water dams were put into operation, more than 55,000 hectares of agricultural land were equipped with irrigation systems, 10 cities and 1,650 villages were supplied with water, and 13 sewage filtration centers were put into operation in the last Iranian year.

Ardakanian stressed that in the electricity sector, 9 thermal power stations were built, the generation capacity of 5 power plants was increased, 30 small-scale power plants were built, 25 solar panels and wind power plants were installed in the last Iranian year.

“Thus, a total of 2,330 megawatt-hours of electricity was added to Iran's electricity generation potential. In addition, 288 villages were supplied with electricity,” he said.

The minister emphasized that the current electricity generation capacity of the power plants in Iran is more than 85,000 megawatt-hours.
